The Edge of Reason
Just got back from watching Bridget Jones' Diary 2 and it was definitely a much needed chick flick. :) Although, I don't think that Bridget Jones belongs with Mark Darcy for many reasons. Let me explain.
She is rather outgoing and blunt, says what is on her mind and is adventurous. He is a human rights lawyer whose plain expression is the same in every frame! He is embarassed by her when they go out with his lawyer friends and is only crazy about her in the privacy of their bedroom when they are "shagging." It's the only place that he makes her feel beautiful. She, however, longs for romance and spontaneity - something he isn't used to. In my opinion, they are TOO different...and although he cares for her a lot, I can only see a relationship like that going to the shits.
When two people are so different from each other - I mean, it's just plain opposite, not even complementary - because that is obvious when they go out in public together. He is always reserved and she is goofy. How can that work?
Perhaps Hollywood likes to glamourize relationships and make it seem THAT easy - boy meets girl, girl likes boy, something dramatic happens that makes all things clear, problems get solved with kisses. This is why so many people build up these expectations. I found myself in the theatre laughing at the humour behind it all, but knowing that it's a romance movie... and sadly, romance isn't in everyday life like the movie portrays. AND the worst part....the movie ended with the saying: "There is hope for love... even if your butt is the size of two bowling balls!" *Enough said!
